Shamit Dey

Shamit earned his Master of Physical Therapy degree at Western University.  During his education, Shamit developed a strong interest in treating orthopedic injuries.  He worked as a physiotherapy extern at London’s University Hospital and was responsible for working with patients having total hip or total knee replacements.  He is experienced in helping patients regain their mobility and strength and teaching gait mechanics. Shamit completed his clinical education at the prestigious Fowler-Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic where he became passionate about working with athletes and a special interest in knee injuries.

Prior to physiotherapy school, Shamit completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto with a double major in Human Biology and Psychology.  He attributes his Biology degree to a deep understanding of injury healing at both a cellular and tissue level and uses this knowledge to plan his patient’s physiotherapy at various stages of healing.  He feels his Psychology degree has helped to shape him as an empathetic listener for his patients.

Shamit has always had a love of science and sports. He has worked previously as a personal trainer and is a strong advocate for an active lifestyle.  Shamit’s approach to physiotherapy always includes a structured exercise program that he knows will be key for current injury management and also for future injury prevention. Along with exercise, Shamit utilises manual therapy and patient education to help promote positive outcomes for his patients. He believes in developing a supportive and meaningful relationship with his patients and collaborating with them to empower them in their rehabilitation journey so they can be strong and do the things they love!

Shamit has recently become certified in acupuncture after completing the esteemed McMaster Medical Acupuncture program. He believes his knowledge on Traditional Chinese Medicine and trigger point identification will make him a more versatile clinician.

In his spare time, Shamit enjoys travelling, weightlifting, playing and watching basketball, and trying new restaurants!
